Sawaddee October!

Boy has it been crazy busy! If you follow me on social media, you probably know that I was on the road at the end of last month filming the second season of my Canadian TV show, One World Kitchen. We also filmed a seasonal special for the holidays where all the hosts of OWK got together to make an international holiday feast, which was a delicious blast! And...that is why I did not get around to sending out the newsletter last month, so this is a double issue :)

I released a video this month sharing my life story with you (link below). The response has been incredible and overwhelming, and I am so touched by the number of people who have told me that they are inspired by what I've done. So thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has written me.

What I didn't mention in the video is that even though I'm doing exactly what I dreamed of doing, and I wouldn't want it any other way....it is not easy. Amongst the fun and joy, there are a lot of obstacles to overcome and never-ending tests of patience and discipline. At times, it can be frustrating.

BUT, nothing else gives me the fuel to keep going more than you guys telling me that I've made a difference in your life; whether it's helping you overcome the fear of cooking ethnic cuisine, helping you create a delicious meal to share with your loved ones, or helping you relive great memories you had in Thailand or with Thai people. And for all my fans who are Thai transplants around the world, it is always a joy helping you connect with your roots, recreate mom's cooking, and cure that homesickness I know well about!

Thank you :)

Thai street noodles

Street Noodles w/ BBQ Pork & Wontons

Noodle soups are all over the streets of Thailand, but did you know that you can order the "dry" version where the noodles don't come with a broth? It's delicious!

grilled eggplant salad

Grilled Eggplant Salad ยำมะเขือยาว

The tender, sweet, juicy flesh of grilled eggplant is the perfect vehicle for the tart, citrusy dressing, and it's made better by the gooey egg yolk. My favourite way to have eggplant!

Throwback: A good ol' video to watch in October

Thai coffee 4 ways

Thai Coffee 4 Ways

I happen to be writing this newsletter on National Coffee Day (who comes up with these days anyway? But I'll take it!), so I thought I'd re-share this video talking about 4 different old-school ways Thai people have coffee :)

Interesting stuff you might enjoy...

• A hilarious parody on artisanal food creators! This is a video that advertises "bespoke water" which pokes fun of how artisanal food are sometimes presented.

• Stealing recipes. Here's an interesting case of a well known food writer who is accusing Buzzfeed of stealing one of his recipes. Interestingly, a similar thing has happened to my recipes as well, and I really appreciate readers letting me know when they find an uncannily similar recipe on another website without giving proper credit!
